Kalsari eyed the two suspiciously. "Why destroy one and not the other?" she asked, finally speaking for the first time since she had arrived. Her voice was low pitched and soft, but not in a masculine way, but deeper and stronger than one would expect from the slight Tier'Dal.
"Why not destroy them both?" She shifted uneasily on the spot. She let the tossed mantle fall to the ground. While fire could cause her harm if she came into direct contact with it, extremes in temperature did not bother her. Freezing cold or searing heat, she could function perfectly well in either.
Something else caught her attention, something out side. She couldnt quite say if she had heard it or felt it, but she sensed the anticipation. Her face however, did not give away her knowledge that others approached. Listening with her sensative ears and senses, she eyed the visible threat as she awaited his answer.

"I was only asked to destroy the one and intended to return this one to the creator and let him decide what to do with it... but thinking about it, your idea may actually be the wiser." Gilliadson stepped up to the table, placed the box on it and stepped away. "You may wish to don that mantle. You do not know the power of her Fire spell and I have no desire to see you harmed."

The Koada`Dal quickly memorized the spell that she needed...

"The boxes that these devices are in cannot be destroyed with any kind of physical force. Much like your Music Box Beloved. However, a hot enough fireball will destroy what is inside them." Said the Elementalist. "Please, Cara, we are showing you some trust here and intend to take your advice. Place the other next to the one and I will destroy them both. Oh, and as Gilliadson said, it would be quite wise to have that mantle on to protect you from the flareup. Unless you would like to step into the other room while this is being done."

"My name is Kalsari." she stated. They knew she was not what she had appeared before, so it was pointless pretending to be Cara anymore. She stood undecided a moment before removing the other device from her tunic. She tossed it onto the table and moved out of the way, closer to the Paladin and his wife but not close enough for him to grab her.
She said nothing, but her posture spoke of her anxiety, the need to hurry before others came or the hidden one attacked.

"Very well Kalsari then." Said the Koada`Dal.

Sineliniel made a few gestures and softly sang an incantation. A small orb of fire formed between her hands that grew brighter. The field around the orb protected them from the heat contained within it but the field would burst upon impact with another object, releasing the full fury of what it contained.

Sineliniel looked troubled for as she tried to control the force within the orb.

"Something is wrong. I cannot control the flame within the orb! Everyone hit the floor!" Sineliniel tossed the orb toward the table and dropped to the floor. Gilliadson fell on top of her to help protect her further.

Seeing the trouble that the Koada`Dal was having with her spell, the Shadow Knight silently slipped into the next room.

"Well Kalsari, when this is done... What the...?" The knight noticed the trouble his wife was having and quickly turned to her.

"Everyone hit the floor!" The Koada`Dal tossed the orb toward the table and fell to the floor.

Gilliadson threw himself on top of her to give her the protection of not only the mantle that she gave him but also his armor.

The Paladin noticed a small amount of dust being kicked up from the floor near the doorway to the other room.

Kalsari looked at the mage in confusion. What kind of Mage couldn't control her own spell? Even the young one in her House had perfect control over what she cast. Her hesitation cost her.
The orb tossed upon the table exploded in a burst of flame. The Knight and the Mage had already taken refuge upon the floor and Kalsari took full force of the backlash of magic as she tried to hit the deck. She screamed in pain, rolling in agony on the floor, unwittingly putting the flames out as she did. But that did little to ease the burning agony on her upper torso and arms, even her face. Her long silken hair was singed and burned away in spots.
After a moment she lay still apart from an occasional whimper. She knew she would heal quickly, within minutes even, but it did not mean she didn't feel pain. From the floor her eyes drifted to the door. She could not stay long, her body's repair of such injuries took up most of her resources and there was only one way to replenish that... Since the Druids spell she had rarely fed despite her youth, but this was different.
But it was far too painful to move just yet. She clenched her teeth in pain, but did not get up.

Gilliadson saw the plight of the Sanguine following the blast and quickly went to her. He knew that she did not trust him but this was the only recourse. Quickly the Knight laid his hands gently on the injured Assassin and willed her wounds to heal. Gilliadson's hands glowed softly as Kalsari's burns were healed, leaving no scars. Even her hair was restored.

"Rest for a moment." Gilliadson rose and went to his wife and helped her to her feet.

"I... I... do not know what happened..." Started the Elementalist as her husband helped her to her feet. "I have not had a lapse of control like that since when the Changing first came upon me. I am so sorry Kalsari, I have not had that happen in a very long time."

Sineliniel turned her head and looked at the table where the boxes were. The table was gone and there was no sign of either of the boxes. There was just one pile of ash and molten metal that was cooling.

R`Lith bound his sight to Sineliniel.

The old wizard watched through the eyes of the Elementalist as as she tossed her fiery orb... now was his chance! Just before the orb struck the table, R`Lith opened a small portal right next to the Mesmerizing device. He quickly reached through the portal and snatched the box as the explosion began. The blast threw him away from the portal. The portal closed immediately once his hand and its prize were back through. His Mistress will be most pleased to learn that he had helped her accomplish her mission. The box was in his now slightly charred hand. A visit to a Priest would fix that though it was quite painful.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Shadow Knight heard the blast from the other room and knew that her mission had ended in failure. Only one thing now left on her mind and that was the end of Shadowbane.

"Three!"
Strormfollower rushed the scene with Alsurin falling in quick behind him but just as they were about to burst in on the interior of the hut the blast that had issued forth sent them both sprawling paces backwards. Smoke and steam poured from the window openings and ancient doorframes. Picking themselves up the two walked slowly towards the charred building to see what had come to pass. Perhaps there were survivors in need of healing.

The Paladin of Marr stepped back over to his wife and held her in his arms. She was still trembling from the knowledge that she had lost control of her magic.

The Shadow Knight pulled another arrow from her quiver and got it ready. D`Nar quietly walked into the next room and saw her target holding his Koada`Dal mate. The Shadow Knight drew the arrow to her cheek and pointed it at the Knight’s back.

As they held each other, Sineliniel saw the Teir`Dal Shadow Knight become visible with her bow drawn. The Teir`Dal pointed the arrow at Gilliadson’s back. Sineliniel silently commanded Fluffy to attack but saw that her Elemental would not reach the Teir`Dal in time. Sineliniel knew that her husband was spiritually drained as it had taken her some time to recover her mental energies enough to launch that fireball and that he had used his laying of hands ability on Kalsari. As she saw the Teir`Dal’s fingers start to relax, she turned her husband and herself around.
