Hourless (open, pathless)
(at the moment this thread is just a place for some Rp without specific direction, to be shaped as anyone wills =)
Alsurin doubled over as a liquid fist slammed into his abdomen with unexpected force, leaving him gasping for breath. Any child born along the seacoast could attest to fact that water, despite its appearance, could become like stone at the right velocity. Unfortunately for the drakkin, those things we learn only from textbooks don't truly seem real until they bruise us.
The world gradually came into focus again and he paused to consider his sparring partner with renewed caution. Vaporous mist blurred the edges of the elemental's form as the summer heat engulfed the Surefall Glade. The construct waited with infinite patience, expressionless face distorting all light passing through it. The mage grimaced, trying to keep the dimensions of the transparent opponent firmly in mind.
Golden tattoos snaking their way along the young man's bare chest shone under a sheen of sweat, now mingling with his latest dunking. At least the token of repetitive defeat also kept him cool. Neither the disturbance or temperature seemed to discourage the glades true inhabitants, and the hum of insects mingled with avian chatter in verdure.
Alsurin gripped the ash wood of his quarterstaff and feinted left, deftly flowing into a charge. He rushed forward valiantly, only to be shortly be deposited through the air four feet past his starting point. The summoner sighed, raising his head from the dust. It was going to be a long day....

From the sturdy tree brance high above Alsurin Stormfolower belowed down.
" A very astute martial artist once said this about that..."
He speaks with a strange accent.
"Be Formless, shapeless like water. Now if you put water into a cup it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle, you put it into a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash, be water my friend.""

Alsurin rolled his eyes, expressing more exasperation then he felt, toward the shaman at least. "That is well for merfolk or martially inclined gravy I suppose," the mage said, rising to his feet. "But, I have found my essence to be a bit less malleable."
Regardless of cynicism, he attempted to incorporate fluidity into his next charge. The staff hummed through the air as he wove a path to the elemental. However, reflexes unbound by such frivolities as emotion or hesitation soon sent Alsurin reeling into the dirt again.
Passerby no longer gave the proceedings much notice, though the druids did occasionally grimace in sympathy. The young fool had been at this for a while and it was his body to bruise after all. Sounds of idle conversation and the laughter of children mingled pleasantly with the forest's litany.

From his perch Stormfollower tried to stiffle any mirth in his voice as he spoke.
" Interesting technique you are using there Alsurin. What style is that thow incorporates. Could it be thow hast studied with the great masters of the fetal possition?"
He could not help but let out a short chuckle as Alsurin was thrown to the ground once more by his liquid sparring partner. " Sorry. Perhaps thow would have more success against an opponent that could not predict thine every move?"

With a grudging smile Alsurin put a hand up the tree trunk, leaning against it as stability returned to his limbs. Weidjin had asked that his student for a time turn his studies from drawing more power from plane to seek a greater knowledge of their presence in the physical world. Yet, rather the communing with them in their pure form, the old man, in a move that Alsurin personally thought indicative of a deep rooted sense of perversity, also requested that they be observed within complex incarnations. His own body was to be a starting point.
"Look upon all matter, study it my son," The Archmagus intoned, "let the mystery of form and substance beguile you. All things are crafted from the same indivisible particles, which are woven by the divine to form the pillars of creation. Yet, these in turn are themselves brewed together within the subtle alchemy of the physical world. The uniform embraces diversity and the timeless becomes, yet outlives, the ephemeral." He locked a fidgeting Alsurin in his piercing gaze. "Understand this boy, and you will have a knowledge that transcends the fleeting moment, tribe, ruler, authority, or any of those other useless baubles with which men concern themselves. You will become unbound, hourless."
Thus, here he was, flailing like an overeager squire for the entertainment of the masses. He made no attempt to conceal his gratitude in light of a distraction.
"Oh," asked the conjurer with a sly grin, "and where would I find such an opponent?"

Keikolin had asked that her servant to, for a time, turn his studies from the wheel of greater elements to seeking a greater knowledge of their presence in the physical world. Yet, these in turn are themselves brewed together within the subtle alchemy of the physical world. The uniform embraces diversity and the timeless becomes, yet outlives, the ephemeral." She locked a fidgeting Alsurin in her piercing gaze, staring deeply into those saphire eyes that so closely mimicked her own. "Understand this little Chalice, and you will have a knowledge that transcends the fleeting moment, tribe, ruler, authority, or any of those other useless baubles with which fools concern themselves. You will become unbound, hourless."

Tortha had watched from by a nearby tree, desperately trying not to laugh at his friends predicament. But now his father had suggested an opponent. He rubbed his chin in thought and looked down at Sidheag. The white wolf had whined softly at every beating the Drakkin had took, feeling sympathy for him. "Typical female" the youth said then moved away from the tree and over to Alsurin and his father.
Despite his youth, Tortha towered over Alsurin in both height and build. He grinned at his scaled friend.
"Me?"

"Me?"
With an inward groan Alsurin looked up at his friend. He and Tortha had sparred before, quite often in fact. The mage had won on four occasions out of twelve this season, and that was when he resorted to throwing lightning.
"Xegony's breath have we all become feir'dal?" He made a show of scrutinizing the surrounding trees for more newcomers."Alright, just don't bludgeon my head so hard this time. I swear I had double vision for a week after that."
Alsurin extended a hand towards his servant and clenched a hand, uttering a word of dismissal. The elemental dissolved into a puddle that was quickly soaked up by the thirsting earth, its animating energy hovered above like a distraught ghost. Another gesture and the golden light streaked to his palm. Practiced motions shaped the glow into another staff, pure mana becoming matter with surge of otherworldly whispers.
The conjurer tossed the weapon to Tortha and moved backward several paces. "Is the balance adequate? Storm, will you keep marks?"

Alsurinn darted forward, bringing his weapon in an swift arch toward the big youth's knee.
"Oh," he gasped, "so she is you mother now?" Tortha had actually been warming towards the fact for quite some time. Yet, what kind of friend was he if he didn't make the official admission an occasion for merciless comment.

"One point Alsurin!" Stormfollower chuckled from the branch high above.
He had an excellent view of what should prove to be an interesting match. Digging into a bag of nuts (one or two of which he " accidentally " dropped on Tortha at critically defensive moments) he settled back on the branch to crack and eat them and to "watch" the fun.

Alsurin took Tortha's blow with gritted teeth and leaped backward from the fray. He began to circle again, keeping his quarterstaff a whirling blur.
"Ah, pity you can see your own face at times. I thought only scholar's were supposed to feign doubt regarding things they already know?
