They cant, but not all barbarians are the children of two "barbarian" parents. It seems a matter more akin to ethnicity then species, thus mixed families doesnt seem at all uncommen, or at least, not as notable as elven-human-orc-what have you---unions.

I thought barbarians were human, didnt some barbarians just migrate south to get away from the warring forming the Combine Empire and thenmoved into towns after it dissapeared? creating the first "human settlements". Or is it a whole subspecies thing ((Eww that was a creepy B movie...Subspecies..dreweling vampires and microphone boom shadows, real quality film to be avoided by all but the very hardened b-movie watchers..Also titled How Not to Shoot a Movie..and there were sequels! *shrugs*))
